Terms of Service

1. Who these terms are with

These terms govern your use of thompsontranslations.com and any order placed through it. The seller is Thompson Translations, Tungebråtveien 11, 1165 Oslo, Norway, org.nr 927 613 480, MVA NO 927 613 480 MVA. Contact: support@thompsontranslations.com, +47 404 39 537.

2. What we offer

We sell certified, notarised and apostille-handled translation, legal, medical, technical and financial translation, website and software localisation, interpreting, proofreading and post-editing (MTPE), and transcription and subtitling — each described on its own service page, with units and prices set out on Pricing. Website & Software Localisation project scoping over 20,000 words is priced only after a scoping quote, since it genuinely can't be fixed-priced in advance; every other service can be ordered directly online.

3. Placing an order

An order is placed when you complete checkout and receive an order confirmation with an order reference (format TT-YYYYMMDD-XXXX). The price shown in your cart at the point of order, including 25% MVA, any tier (standard/express) and any surcharge you selected, is the price you pay. Business customers ordering with an organisation number receive an invoice reflecting correct MVA treatment for a Norwegian business.

4. Prices and payment

All prices on this site are in Norwegian kroner (NOK) and include 25% MVA, broken out as its own line at checkout. This site's checkout currently operates as a demonstration payment flow: it takes no real payment, collects no card data, and offers deterministic simulated outcomes alongside a genuine "pay by invoice on delivery" option. No card-number field exists anywhere on this site. When a live payment provider is connected, this section will describe it; the price, MVA treatment and order process described here do not change.

5. Delivery

Digital delivery (a signed/stamped PDF, where applicable) is free and is our default delivery method. Stamped hard-copy delivery is available as a paid add-on (NOK 129 within Norway, NOK 349 internationally) at checkout. Turnaround times are stated on each service page and on Pricing, and begin once we have everything we need from you (a legible source file, and answers to any clarifying questions) — not from the moment you place the order if information is still outstanding.

6. Cancellation, changes and refunds

Full detail is in our Refunds & Right of Withdrawal policy. In summary: orders can be cancelled free of charge until work starts; once a translator has been assigned, cancelling within 24 hours of placing the order is charged at 50% of the order value; completed and delivered work is not refundable. Interpreting bookings follow a 24-hour/50% cancellation rule specifically, because they're time-based appointments rather than document orders.

7. Your responsibilities

You're responsible for providing a legible, complete source document or file, for the accuracy of any names, dates or figures you supply outside the source text itself, and for confirming which certification level (standard/certified/notarised/apostilled) your receiving authority actually requires — we can help you work this out via the certification explainer or by asking before you order, but the final requirement is set by that authority, not by us.

8. What we don't guarantee

We guarantee that a certified translation is formatted to the receiving authority's stated requirements as we understand them from the information you give us at the time of ordering. We cannot guarantee that any specific authority, court, institution or counterparty will accept a document — that decision is always made by that third party, not by us.

9. Confidentiality

We handle every order under the confidentiality practice described on our About and How it works pages: files are seen only by the translator and independent reviewer assigned to your order. A signed NDA is available on request, at no extra charge, for legal, medical or financial matters.

10. Intellectual property

Once your order is paid in full, you own the translated text we deliver to you. We retain the right to keep an internal, confidential copy for quality, terminology-consistency and legal/accounting record-keeping purposes, handled under the same confidentiality practice and our Privacy Policy.

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Norwegian law (for example, liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct). Beyond that, our liability for a given order is limited to the price paid for that order.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Any dispute that can't be resolved directly is subject to the jurisdiction of Oslo District Court (Oslo tingrett).

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time; the version in force is the one published on this page at the time you place an order.
