1. Who we are
Thompson Translations, Tungebråtveien 11, 1165 Oslo, Norway (org.nr 927 613 480), is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at support@thompsontranslations.com or by phone on +47 404 39 537. For questions specifically about your personal data, you can also use privacy@thompsontranslations.com.
2. What personal data we collect
We collect the personal data you give us directly when you use this site:
- Contact details — name, email address, phone number, and postal/billing address, when you place an order, request a quote, or contact us.
- Order details — the service, language pair, volume, subject area and deadline you select, and, for business customers, your company name and organisation number.
- Correspondence — the content of messages you send us, including source documents you email us after ordering (we never accept file uploads directly on this site).
- Technical data, only with your consent — analytics data collected via Google Analytics 4 once you accept the "Analytics" cookie category (see §6 and our Cookie Policy).
We do not collect special-category personal data as a matter of routine. Where a document you send us for translation contains special-category data (for example, health information in a medical translation order), we process it only to deliver that specific order, under the confidentiality practice described in §5 and on our About and How it works pages.
3. Why we collect it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Processing and delivering your order | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Responding to a quote request or contact-form message | Performance of pre-contractual steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Issuing invoices and meeting bookkeeping obligations | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)), under the Norwegian Accounting Act |
| Analytics, once you've accepted the Analytics cookie category | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — withdrawable at any time via "Cookie settings" |
4. How long we keep it
We keep order and correspondence data for as long as necessary to deliver your order, respond to any follow-up questions, and meet our legal retention obligations — invoicing records are kept for the period required under Norwegian bookkeeping law (currently 5 years from the end of the accounting year). Contact-form and quote-request data that doesn't lead to an order is deleted or anonymised after 12 months of inactivity. Analytics data retention is governed by your Google Analytics 4 settings, applied consistently with this policy.
5. Who we share it with
We don't sell personal data. We share it only with:
- The translator(s) and independent reviewer assigned to your specific order — bound by our confidentiality practice (see About and How it works).
- Our website hosting provider, to the extent necessary to operate this site.
- Google, as the provider of Google Analytics 4, only once you've accepted the Analytics cookie category. See our Cookie Policy for detail on this specific processor.
- A payment processor, once a real payment provider is connected (this site currently runs a demonstration checkout that takes no real payment and transmits no payment data — see Terms of Service).
- Public authorities, where we're legally required to disclose information.
6. Cookies and analytics
This site uses necessary cookies (to run your cart, remember your language choice, and remember your cookie preference) without requiring consent, and Google Analytics 4 only after you explicitly accept the "Analytics" category in the cookie banner or "Cookie settings." Full detail, including how to change your choice at any time, is in our Cookie Policy.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Have inaccurate data corrected.
- Have your data deleted, where there's no overriding legal reason for us to keep it.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format, where applicable.
- Withdraw consent at any time (for analytics, via "Cookie settings" in the footer), without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@thompsontranslations.com or privacy@thompsontranslations.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet), www.datatilsynet.no, if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.
8. Data security
We limit access to your data to the people who need it to deliver your order (your assigned translator and independent reviewer) or run the business (billing and support), and we use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to a small agency handling sensitive documents, including access limited by role and secure handling of source files sent by email or secure link.
9. Children
This site and its services are directed at adults ordering translation and language services. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we change a processor or add a new service. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change.
